Cycling glasses are a vital piece of equipment when heading out to ride. They have a number of functions including helping protect your eyes from harmful UV rays, protecting from wind, rain, dust and bugs. Jon gives his five hacks to keep your glasses in top condition.

A really simple way of cleaning your sunglasses in a hurry is, with clean hands, to run the glasses under some warm water to remove any dirt or grime, then apply a couple of drops of washing up liquid, rub in circular motion between your fingers, then work the washing up liquid around the nose pads and the arms and any rubber grippers too. Rinse with warm water and if you live in a place with hard water, so lots of calcium and magnesium, use distilled water for the process.

What you don’t want to be doing is drying or cleaning the lenses with paper towels is they may contain tiny wood fibres, that can scratch the lens, also, the same with 100% cotton as that can contain dust that can also damage the lens. A microfibre cloth is the thing for the job here, or one of those cleaning cloths from opticians, although they do eventually clog up and risk damaging a lens.

Fogging up eyewear is something which I have found to happen with virtually every pair of sunglasses out there. Many glasses do come with anti-fog treatments. But in humid weather, fogging up can be particularly troublesome. So there are a few cheeky hacks to help prevent this. Firstly, shaving foam or gel, rub a small amount onto the inside of the lens with a microfibre cloth and keep going until it disappears. Washing up liquid, add a tiny drop or two of this onto the lens, both front and back and again with a microfibre cloth buff it onto the lens. This is hopefully going to repel any raindrops too, not allowing them to stay on the lens.
