Grip tape on bars, bottle cages, bottoms of levers.
Let’s kick today off with a really quick and sensible way to improve the function of a few components on your bike. Starting with items that become slippery when wet or on rough ground.

By adding little slithers of skateboard deck tape to your shifters, brake levers you can really increase your confidence in always having maximum control. This becomes especially useful in cold wet conditions where you may lose sensation in your fingertips.

Tyre pressure monitor.
Whilst track pumps are great for setting your pressures in the first place, it can really be beneficial to periodically check/adjust pressures and nothing works quite as well as a digital pressure gauge. This can be one of your best friends when changing tyre brands and trying to establish a good baseline pressure!

Measurement detail.
Most pros can jump from bike to bike with no issues, the reason for this is their meticulous setup, to begin with, and sticking with those measurements from bike to bike/brand to brand. Whilst these measurements may not always translate 100% and two bikes rarely feel quite the same, it is again a perfect baseline that you can take with you at all times.

The positioning of QRs.
This is partly for aesthetics but can be for safety too. I like to tuck both of my QRs out of the way of other rides wheels to ensure we can’t become interlocked, especially in the event of a crash, or a near crash. In a bike race you will avoid 100s of crashes and think nothing of it, but if your QRs enable a wheel to get in behind them and open them up, then you could be forced to stop and adjust. So, for that reason, tuck them in!

Tape or shrink wrap on cables or wires.
Keep your bike tidy by joining cables or wires whenever possible, great for aero, but also for aesthetics. Shrink wraps are great for keeping water out too! So well worth playing around with.
