GCN launches specialist bicycle insurance for cyclists in the UK

We’re delighted to announce that GCN is now offering specialist bicycle insurance to all UK cyclists. GCN insurance (yes, it took us ages to come up with the name) will offer a range of insurance cover for you as a rider, and your bike. It doesn't matter what sort of riding you're into or what type of bike you own, you'll be able to tailor your coverage to your specific needs. It’s currently only available to cyclists in the UK but we hope to make it more widely available in the future.

Why do I need specialised bicycle insurance?

As cyclists ourselves we know the enjoyment that comes from spending time on our bikes, but we also recognise how expensive it can be. Accidents do unfortunately happen from time to time and it can be a stressful experience if you damage your pride and joy, or if you suffer an injury while riding. There’s also the increased concern around bike theft and the anxiety of leaving even a locked bike for a few minutes while you grab a coffee or for longer periods while you’re at work.

That’s why we’re really pleased to have launched GCN cycling insurance – it’s designed to give you peace of mind in the event of anything untoward happening to you or your bike.

Bike insurance can be a good idea for those looking to protect their bike or themselves from accidental damage or injury

How does GCN's cycling insurance work?

There are three options available. GCN cycling insurance can cover you, can cover your bike, or cover both you and your bike. You can find full details on our dedicated cycling insurance page but here’s a brief summary.

Option 1 - Public liability insurance for you, the cyclist: plus optional personal injury cover

For only £1.25 per month, you will receive up to £2,000,000 in public liability coverage for claims made against you for damages or injuries while cycling. For an extra £1.25 per month you will receive support with your medical bills, physiotherapy, dental and optical care if you are injured in a cycling accident.

Option 2 - Insurance for your bike: Theft, malicious and accidental damage

This isn’t just for roadies, although we do of course, cover road bikes. We cater for almost all types of bikes from gravel bikes to mountain bikes, e-bikes to cargo bikes, commuter bikes and more. There’s also a multi-bike option if, like us, you’re lucky enough to have more than one at home. If you live with family or friends who also own bikes then you can speak to us about what options are available. Getting a quote is easy and only takes a few minutes.

Option 3 - Bicycle and cyclist cover: Theft, damage, accessories, public liability and more

GCN insurance covers theft of your bike, accidental damage, £250 of accessories cover, and public liability of up to £2 million. There are also options for personal injury, medical, travel and event cover if you need them. We know that a lot of you like to head abroad for some foreign adventures, and need peace of mind whilst doing so.

How easy is a cycling insurance claim with GCN?

In addition to our flexible cover, there are no hidden charges, we are quick to respond and provide feedback. There is a standard excess, and there are no premium increases for claims. It’ll give you peace of mind - we want you to get more from cycling and yourselves.
